It is with regret we advise that Warren passed away on the evening of 20th December after a long illness.
Swannie was schooled at Newington College where he played for the first XV as a prop and the 1st XI as a very fast left arm fast bowler and still holds the record for the most wickets taken in a season.
After school, he played for the Wallaroos, East’s Colts side and then went on to play many games for East’s first grade. In 1967, he toured Japan and Hong Kong with Easts. In 1969, having moved north of the harbour, he played for Gordon in the Easts – Gordon grand final won by Easts.
Warren went on to play many more first grade games for Gordon from 1969-74. Over that period, he played 69 first grade games for a total of 108 games for Gordon.
After leaving Gordon, Warren went on to play some sub-district games with Lindfield Rugby Club.
There will be a memorial service for Warren at the end of January.
Our condolences and thoughts go out to his children Edwina, Andrew and Sean.
