THE GORDON RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB HISTORY
The original Gordon Rugby Football Club was founded in 1927 on Sydney’s North Shore, playing in the Metropolitan Junior competitions with Roseville Chase Oval as its home ground.
In 1936 the Gordon District Rugby Union Football Club came into being and was admitted to the Grade Competition fielding four grade and two junior sides.
By 1939, the 1st XV had won the Minor Premiership. Fourth grade won its first premiership in 1946 and three years later Gordon won the Club Championship after winning both the 1st and 4th grade Premierships. It was also in 1949 that the club adopted a new jersey incorporating the colours of the Gordon tartan and introduced the club song “A Gordon For Me”, emphasising the strong Scottish influence within the Club.
Today the club is renowned for its dedication to the promotion of the game at all levels, its tremendous club spirit, its enthusiastic supporters, excellent administration and its links with the Community.
It has produced 34 Australian representatives, won 42 Premierships including eight 1st Grade Premierships and has won 13 Club Championships.
For 80 years the proud Gordon Rugby Union Football Club has been an integral part of life on Sydney’s north shore.
Gordon is far more than championship winning senior teams at Chatswood. Gordon Rugby is the parent, patron and mentor to eight junior feeder clubs spread throughout Sydney’s A-B demographic heartland.
An association with Gordon Rugby is an entree to business and community leaders who comprise the supporters of all of these clubs. Involvement with our club is not seen by sponsors as a donation, but rather as an investment in sound marketing through the networking opportunities it affords them.
Our sponsorship packages offer excellent value and have been designed to maximise the exposure opportunities, and hence the return, for all participants. We offer significant opportunities for quality lead generation and qualified prospecting with a combination of direct marketing with customised offers, on ground branding, attendance at club functions and exposure through all of our member communication avenues.
Our sponsors also gain enormous media exposure, not the least of which is through the regular telecasting on free to air TV of our matches, providing exposure throughout NSW and the ACT and our web site that averages 4000 hits a month during the season.
DELIVERING THE NORTH SHORE
Under the banner of Gordon Rugby, the Gordon Rugby Football Club Ltd fields four Grade and three Colts sides as well as eight Junior representative teams.
Our junior network is vast. The 3000 junior players in the Gordon District represent a quarter of the total number of juniors in Sydney and we have developed a strong network with the Rugby playing schools on the North Shore including private schools such as Barker, Knox, Shore, Riverview and St Josephs College plus Killara and Chatswood High Schools.
Gordon’s Village feeder clubs include: Chatswood, Hornsby, Killara-West/Pymble, Lane Cove, Lindfield, Roseville, St Ives and Wahroonga.
Our geographic position and involvement with prestigious schools are significant factors in our being able to deliver a demographic even more appealing to a marketer than Rugby Union generally, a sport that attracts a predominantly white collar audience of which 60% have a Diploma or Degree and 46% are Professionals or Managers.
Gordon Rugby is committed to working with our sponsors to generate media exposure.
With a strong presence on free to air TV through the regular telecast of our games, as well as regular print coverage, we can develop exposure opportunities by working hand in glove with you. In terms of print we receive particularly good coverage of all activities through the North Shore Times. In addition there are many opportunities through the Gordon Rugby Club web site and our weekly newsletter emailed to all members.
