23rd December 2016
Fellow Highlanders
Just wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in our Club throughout 2016.
Players, supporters, volunteers and sponsors alike are all an integral part of our Club!
It was a mixed year with many positives and some areas that did not reach expectation.
That is the nature of any sporting club. Highlights being as follows:-
Ø Colts in top 3 in Club Championship.
Ø Jack Dempsey being selected in Wallaby Squad for Spring Tour.
Ø Our partner UTS winning Australian University 7s tournament in Perth with 8 Gordon players in Squad and coached by our Colts Director, Dave Telfer.
Ø Setting up of the Gordon Rugby Foundation which provides a tax effective platform for donations.
Ø New lights being installed at Chatswood Oval.
Ø Josh Mitchell receiving major awards @ UTS on behalf of our Club.
Ø New Coaching team appointed under the leadership of Mark Philp including ex-Gordon, NSW and QLD player, Mike Hayes, and experienced forwards coach Mark De Brinkat .
Ø Partnership with Fitness First formed with access to 65 gym outlets.
Ø Curran Property continuing as our major sponsor.
Ø New digital scoreboard installed in conjuction with Gordon Cricket Club.
Ø Appointment of our new GM, Christie Krenkels.
Sadly, we lost some great Gordon people in Maurie Graham, Bernie Shirvington, Ian Tuckwell and Warren Swan – our thoughts go out to their families over the Christmas period.
We had our final training session for the year last night for the year, followed by a BBQ put on by FOGS with first session in 2017 on Jan 10th. The pre-season training has been great with a very balanced program put together by Mark Philp and Dave Telfer.
The club would like to thank the big Jock, Ru Wilson, for his great work as Club Captain. He has been a tower of strength.
We look to season 2017 with great anticipation!
On behalf of our Club, we would like to wish everyone a safe and great Christmas and we look forward to catching up in the New Year.
Best wishes,
Hayden Rorke
