The Gordon Rugby Board are pleased to announce the appointment of Brian “Billy” Melrose as the Club Director of Rugby and 1st Grade Head Coach in 2021.
Billy has a wealth of knowledge and experience from a career coaching around the world in some of rugby’s elite competitions, including the Waratahs, Connacht (Pro12) and London Irish. He has worked as a Skills Consultant with the St George Illawarra Dragons (NRL) and as Head Coach of the Greater Sydney Rams and the Australian U/20s. Billy has also enjoyed plenty of coaching success in the Shute Shield with stints at Manly, Eastwood and West Harbour.
The addition of Billy, an experienced and innovative coach, to Darren Coleman’s already strong Coaching team in 2020 has enabled the Club to further develop player skill and match awareness depth across the playing group.
2020 has allowed Billy to get an understanding of the Gordon playing group, the Colts coming through our system and importantly, the Gordon Highlanders culture. He is looking forward to continuing to build on the success of 2020 to ensure the Highlanders remain a force in the Shute Shield competition.
